The outstanding research that comes out of Bavarian universities and research institutes, the huge power for innovation demonstrated by Bavarian businesses and a great entrepreneurial spirit are all essential to making sure Bavaria is competitive. They are decisive foundations for job security and the future prosperity of the Free State of Bavaria. A state with few resources of its own, like Bavaria, has to focus in particular on the “resource mind”. Particularly in the age of the digital revolution, harvesting new ideas and developments and making sure we translate them into marketable products, processes and services are both key to a successful economic future. The Bavarian state government supports representatives from every stage of the innovation process with its central point of contact:
The Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency offers an integrated service, starting with your innovative idea, going through to procurement, funding and even marketing the finished product. Stakeholders from science and industry can access an extensive range of services and excellent consultation on issues regarding research and innovation funding, technology transfer, networking, patents and licences, all from a single source.
Since it was founded under the name “Haus der Forschung” (“House of Research”) – made up of the partners Bayern Innovativ, Bavarian Research Alliance, Innovations- und Technologiezentrum Bayern, and Bayerische Forschungsstiftung – back in 2009, the Agency has become an inherent part of the research and innovation scene and a model for success here in Bavaria. This is demonstrated by the positive results of an evaluation conducted by an esteemed expert committee after the agency’s first five years in business. I would like to express my warm congratulations to everyone involved in this impressive result. I am also delighted that the service portfolio could be enhanced even further with the addition of a fifth partner, the Bayerische Patentallianz. I would like to express my gratitude to the teams from all four original partners for all their hard work and successful collaboration over the past few years. I also wish the team at the agency’s latest member, the Bayerische Patenallianz, all the best for a successful integration into the cooperation model. By bringing your expertise and experience to the Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency, you are making an invaluable contribution to creating a strong system of research and innovation in Bavaria.
“Innovative projects on the road to success” – this is the guiding principle of the Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency (BayFIA), a joint initiative of the Bavarian Ministry of Science and the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs. The Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency is the central point of contact in Bavaria for anyone looking for professional support in realizing their research and innovation project ideas. The four BayFIA partner institutions and their experts support small and medium-sized companies, universities and other research institutions with their know-how from the initial idea to industrial implementation. They guide you through the wide range of funding countries, help with the acquisition of funding from the Free State, the Federal Government and the EU for innovative projects and advise on all questions relating to inventions, patents and licenses. At the same time, BayFIA supports the organization of knowledge and technology transfer with events, networks and clusters. In addition, their partner institutions offer a number of their own funding programs for research projects and new technologies.
The partner institutions united under the umbrella of the Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency work in a specialized manner and at the same time hand in hand so that good ideas and projects find their way into funding and application as quickly, unbureaucratically and successfully as possible. The experts at BayFIA are available as central contacts for inquiries and initial consultations with their wide service portfolio, both on a free service telephone number and on site in Munich and Nuremberg.
For more than ten years, BayFIA has been a central component of Bavarian research, technology and innovation policy, which aims to maintain and further expand Bavaria’s leading position as a high-tech location in international competition. For this we need an efficient research landscape, innovative companies and imaginative start-ups, because Bavaria should remain a state of the future!
Munich, March 2022
The chemist, inventor and manager Hans-Jürgen Quadbeck-Seeger once said: “Innovations are an alliance with the future.” The Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency (BayFIA), as the central point of contact for innovations in Bavaria, is an institution that can make a significant contribution to forging this alliance for the future.
In the innovation ecosystem of the Free State of Bavaria, BayFIA stands for individually tailored services from a single source along the entire innovation chain. Four strong partner organisations – the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR), the Bavarian Patent Alliance (BayPAT), Bayern Innovativ GmbH and the Bavarian Research Foundation – cooperate closely with each other in order to optimally coordinate their offerings. These range from advice on funding opportunities at Bavarian, German and European level to support in the application process and the formation of research consortia to assistance with patenting, internationalisation and marketing of the solutions developed. In addition, BayFIA itself is also a sponsor in certain areas. This wide range of services is unique in Germany.
The BayFIA family wants to be a trustworthy companion of business and science on their common path from the initial idea to the later commercialization of the product or service. That’s what my fellow managing directors in the BayFIA network and I, as well as many employees at the locations in Munich and Nuremberg, work to achieve every day. I would like to thank all of you for your collegial and constructive cooperation so far and look forward to continuing it.
From July 1st 2024, I will once again be able to take on the role of BayFIA spokesperson as Managing Director of the Bavarian Research Foundation. My special thanks go to my predecessor Dr. Christian Haslbeck (Bayerische Forschungsstiftung) for what he has achieved over the past year.
It is a personal concern of mine to actively support and further develop the transfer of technology and knowledge in Bavaria. I would therefore like to encourage you to get in touch with the BayFIA family and talk to us about your innovative project ideas. We will be happy to advise you and help you to make this a reality.
