Because the Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency also offers you appropriate know-how and support in technology, patent and licensing issues as well as in the area of marketing, thus significantly reducing the burden on your resources.

As the central patent exploitation agency for Bavarian universities and universities of applied sciences, Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH (BayPAT) has extensive experience in the field of technologies, patents and licenses. Thanks to the interdisciplinary composition of its team of experienced scientists, engineers, business economists, lawyers and patent attorneys, BayPAT is able to offer targeted and specialized support in all service areas.

Since its foundation in 2007, BayPAT has already evaluated more than 2,200 invention disclosures from the fields of life sciences and physical sciences and initiated over 550 patent applications.

Based on the research results of over 23,000 scientists, it provides industry with unique access to Bavaria’s largest pool of patent-protected technologies.

WIPANO funding program: knowledge and technology transfer through patents and standards

BayPAT also offers small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) advice and support in protecting and marketing inventions.

Many years of development work and high financial expenditure often lie between an invention and a marketable product. Patents are a suitable means of protecting these investments and securing a company’s innovative edge. In order to achieve maximum success in protecting inventions and marketing them, BayPAT offers support as an official partner in the “WIPANO – Knowledge and Technology Transfer through Patents and Standards” program, which is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. WIPANO is the successor to the “SIGNO – Protection of Ideas for Commercial Use” program, in which BayPAT was also a partner.

The program supports small and medium-sized enterprises in particular in the area of “Companies” in the initial protection of their research and development results through patents and utility models, thereby facilitating their access to the topic of “property rights”.

The funding covers the entire process of applying for intellectual property rights, from the examination of the idea to its exploitation. The funding is divided into six service packages (LP):

• Rough examination per invention disclosure
• Detailed examination per invention disclosure
  (Strategy) consulting and coordination for patent application
• Patent application
• Utilization activities
• Portfolio management
